Rum Tum Tum

When you decide to pick up a new hobby it’s always best to do it with a new drink in hand…is my code. That way, when it goes well you can hold up your glass and make a big (somewhat grandiose) cheers that you have accomplished a fete, larger than expected. You have mastered a new sport-to which everyone must drink and pat you on the back. And, if it doesn’t go so well, you clearly have an out, “I was drinking at the time…” This was my plan…

Paddle boarding has been on my list for years. And being a creature of the New York City I hadn’t gotten to the task. Surfing, yes, don’t ask (I’ll tell you about that later…), swimming of of course, kayaking – near expert 😉 but paddle boarding has eluded me for years. I’m not sure why this wasn’t on my immediate list of water sports, but for whatever reason, I finally jumped in today.

It has quickly become my new favorite pastime and it’s immediately on my Christmas wishlist! (Never too early for Christmas lists, am I right?!) If you need me, I will be paddle boarding. Check out my new take on a Sidecar using Oak & Cane Rum – YUM! ?

Oak & Cane Sidecar

2 oz Oak & Cane Craft Rum

3/4 oz Cointreau
3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
3 dashes Orange Bitters (or to taste)
Splash of Fresh Squeezed Orange
Garnish with a Sweetened Dried Orange
In a shaker combine ice, rum, Cointreau, bitters and fresh orange. Shake vigorously and pour into your favorite coupe or martini glass!

Enjoy and paddle at your own risk!
